Green quilla and some small T-shirts – Handmade by Carolyn

Good morning! I’ve been creating new things…actually, I’m still creating new things, but I’m seriously behind on my blogging. Bad me!

The first to stand; a new little top for me… it’s the new Fibremood Quilla pattern, me and I love it! It’s super cute in my opinion, very easy to make and uses a very small amount of fabric. Is this a good thing? well, it’s pretty wonderful when you have lots of small cuttings leftover that you want to use “gainfully”, like I do.

something I should mention: several times I’ve had to go back and lower the neckline on some of my fibermood brands, retroactively; because I found them quite high in general. So this time I proactively I lowered the neckline by 5cm and I’m glad I did! it doesn’t feel too low at all and is actually very comfortable. Something to keep in mind!

I used raw silk burlap from Le Stash…it’s left over from making this green dress.

I sewed with green thread of course, but I didn’t have matching cotton for the bias binding or green overlocking thread, so I used white for both, so there’s kind of a situation of matching the finishes of the interior seams. It’s a rather pleasant sight to my eyes.

This top has an inverted pleat on the front/back panels and side panels; so I thought I’d share how I hem in this circumstance; the pattern just has you hemming as usual, but I’ve always found that you get a neater crease if you do as above. You need to trim the seam allowances at the hem point so that the hem seam allowances can wrap the other way around the side seam allowances. Yes, it doesn’t make sense, but if you’re doing this kind of hemming, trust me. Since I didn’t have matching overlock thread, I just did a zigzag stitch to finish the raw edges in the hem allowance.

This gives you a nice permanent crease at this point and allows the creases to sit the way you want them too.

oh, see that cute little t-shirt Theo is wearing in the photo above? This is the one I talked about in my previous article. I’m happy to say he loves wearing it as a regular T-shirt and not just for pajamas!

Also, since Arthur’s T-shirts were a bit small, I made him a few more… These are made from two of Tim’s old T-shirts and also some more of that jersey from tomato red cotton with which Théo’s top is made. ; that I’ve been using lately. There will be more from this thing that will appear very soon, once I start modeling and photographing them. In fact, it’s all finally gone now, hooray! and I moved on to other fabrics!

Extras: Yes, I made these jeans, using old jeans and the Closet Core Jenny pattern, previously blogged here
