Presentation of the Torino vest – Sew Tessuti Blog

In a continuing homage to our enduring love affair with boiled wool, we are delighted to introduce our latest sewing pattern: the Torino cardigan! A must-have that is as practical as it is comfortable, this vest is a great addition to your mid-season wardrobe. Just like our Sydney Jacket, the Torino Vest was designed as a practical layering piece that offers style, comfort and warmth.

We describe Torino as a long, sleeveless piece with a subtle A-line and elongated silhouette. It features a cozy shawl collar and elongated shoulders. The wide collar leads to the knee-length hem and can be folded over to form a lapel or rolled up and secured with the unique buckle and feature button.

Alex wears the Torino Vest above in Bollito Budino and below in Bollito Blue.

The hidden slit pockets have been designed to sit nice and low on the hips so there is no drag when in use.

One of the things we love about this vest is its ability to effortlessly elevate both casual and dressier outfits. Thanks to the construction, there is also a fabulous element of texture and warmth.

For an easy everyday ensemble, pair the Torino vest with a basic long sleeve top or turtleneck and your favorite jeans/pants. Alex is wearing it above with our Laura pants (extended sizes 16-22 to come) and Colette, below, paired her Torino (in Bollito Statico) with his favorite Chiara pants made in Black Pattern wool crepe. For a dressier style, Torino also pairs wonderfully with a long skirt or midi/maxi dress.

Now let’s show some of the lovely details of Turin. The stitched back adds a subtle detail, providing both structure and additional warmth.

Wear Torino closed using this simple buckle on the 35mm button.

One of our favorite features is probably this beautiful shawl collar.

As with all of our boiled wool sewing patterns, the seams are overlapped and the hems/edges are left raw, making for fabulously quick and simple sewing.

Suitable fabrics for the Torino vest include boiled wool and boiled felted wools which do not fray when cut. Although no technically made for this pattern, our magnificent range of 100% virgin Italian boiled wools are completely made for this model and their quality and body are everything* you need (*plus thread and a button).

The model is available in five size ranges (Australian) – 0 (size 6), 1 (sizes 8 – 10), 2 (sizes 12 – 14), 3 (sizes 16 – 18), 4 (sizes 20 – 22) – and is now available in paper version and PDF in workshop/print at home version. UK/EU customers can purchase the Torino vest from our French Tessuti model website.

We can’t wait to see your versions and if you share them with us on Instagramdon’t forget to use the hashtags #TessutiPatterns #TorinoVest #SewTessuti.
