These are my favorite places to buy fabric online and in person. I've been sewing and buying fabric for years and keep going back to the same places.
I have been sewing deliberately and thoughtfully for myself for over a decade. I have tried all sorts of fabric stores and types of fabric. I saw how these fabrics wash and wear, and discovered my favorite places to buy fabric.
I come back to these places again and again for their great fabric or wide selection. Some places I have to be very selective so I choose high quality so I'll give you all my best advice.

An economical concept
I went shopping at Thrifty concept for about a year. They sell second-hand fabrics online. Sometimes they receive inventory from fabric stores that are closing, and sometimes people donate fabric they don't want.
I found everything from quilting cotton and canvas to clothing fabrics. I actually bought a lot of clothing fabric and haven't gotten around to sewing with it yet! As with any thrift store, it's important to check regularly and choose only what you will use and what will last.
Unashify is an online store where people can sell fabrics from their stashes. There are some great fabrics available at deeply discounted prices. I love buying other people's fabric collections. It helps them and me!

Raspberry Creek Fabrics
Raspberry Creek Fabrics* is actually local to me, but they also ship their fabrics. They print their own fabrics so you can get truly unique designs. I love their cotton spandex jersey and their cotton spandex French Terry. I often get their prints for my kids, and I also love buying their swimsuit fabric for the whole family.
Besides their fun prints, I love their solids and basics. I mostly wear plain clothes, so this is a great place to get it.
Raspberry Creek Fabrics* also sells beautiful strong woven fabrics. This is often where I find fabric for pants, shirts and dresses.
I only recently started shopping at spoon flower*, and that's because I just can't find the unique prints anywhere else. It's a place where people can upload their fabric designs for anyone to purchase.
I almost always buy the regular cotton fabric because it's the cheapest and I usually use it for beginner sewing projects.
I love browsing the different choices, and it's especially fun around the holidays and for themed items.
I also LOVE receiving spoon flower*Cheater quilt fabric prints to make quick and easy quilts for friends and family.
Fabric.com* has such a large selection of fabrics that I have to be very careful when looking. It's easy to feel overwhelmed or buy something of poor quality. I get all types of clothing fabrics here, as well as quilting cotton and canvas.
The brands I usually buy from are Telio (apparel and knit fabrics), Robert Kaufmann (apparel fabrics), Cotton + Steel (quilting cotton and canvas), and Art Gallery Fabrics (quilting cotton and canvas).
Fabric.com* is the best place to buy Tencel fabric, which is one of my favorite substrates to work with.
I love buying unique and high quality clothing fabrics from Sewing workshop. It's a smaller store so there's not always a lot of stuff and it moves quickly. I have purchased woven and knitted fabrics with great success.
Style designer fabrics
I love buying unique and high quality clothing fabrics from Style designer fabrics. They often choose leftover fabrics from high-end clothing brands, so you can get great looking fabrics. I have purchased woven and knitted fabrics with great success.

Buy second-hand fabric
I love looking for second-hand fabric in person. The best thrift store near me is Savers, but find out what the best fabric near you is. Amazing and beautiful clothing fabrics have arrived at savers near me.
As with any thrift store, it's important to check regularly and choose only what you will use and what will last.

The fabric store I shop at regularly in person is Joann Fabrics*. There are always great options and I love touching the fabric. Sometimes I get clothing fabrics, and sometimes seasonal quilting cotton. I also love looking at their fleece and faux fur.
Joann Fabrics* is the best place to go when I'm altering or remodeling and trying to find a fabric that matches or coordinates closely. I like to hold the item next to the fabrics to find the best one.
And I always get fabric from Joann Fabrics for costumes. This is the best place for Halloween!
