How to Sew a Twisted Headband: Two Ways

Learn how to sew a twisted headband two different ways. Use knitted fabric for a quick and easy sewing project that makes a great gift!

It's great to have a headband to keep your hair out of your face and the cuter the better. I made a simple knit headband with a little bow that I use daily, but I wanted to try making one with a different detail.

These wider ones have a beautiful twist detail and their width makes them perfect to use as earmuffs if needed.

These twist headbands are so quick and easy to sew. You can make so many headbands quickly.

They would make great gifts for friends or family. Create matching ones for a girls sports team or for your group of workout buddies.

What fabric should I use for a twisted headband?

You should use knitted fabric for a twisted headband. Three knitted fabrics I like to use for a cable headband are cotton and spandex jersey, double brushed poly, or French Terry with spandex in the mix.

These knits are all easy to sew and easier to find knits. They come in many fun prints and colors.

What is a PDF sewing pattern?

A PDF pattern is a sewing pattern designed on a computer and organized so that it can be printed on several sheets of letter or A4 size paper.

I love using PDF sewing patterns because if the pattern gets damaged or my kids or I have changed sizes, I can always print it again. It will never be destroyed since I have a digital version!

How to use a PDF sewing pattern?

Open the PDF on a computer and click Print. When printing, make sure the scaling is set to 100% or no scaling so that the design prints at the correct size.

Once the design is printed, it can be glued together to achieve its actual size. Then the pattern can be cut out for each size piece of the pattern or individual sizes can be traced so that the pattern can be used again and again. Learn how to use PDF sewing patterns.
