Holidays – Sewing ideas – The Fold Line

On weekends when I go to London, I love visiting the shops at this time of year. As I looked around I started to notice all the outfits that stores were putting together for the holiday season and thought you might like a little modification. There's still time to sew something so here are my offerings for the mischief season. Appreciate.

So let’s start with color…or to be honest, the lack of it! I was surprised at how well everything was coupled. On the other hand, it really allows you to pair it with anything you already have in your handmade wardrobe. So the three key colors were black, creams and metallics.

If you're wondering what type of fabrics you should buy, anything with glitter will do! I've seen a lot of knitted fabrics like the Mango set above. Failing that, a sort of metallic and there were also a lot of transparent fabrics.

So let’s talk bosses. I've seen lots of fantastic blouses with big sleeves. You can see in the photo above that the fabrications varied greatly. I was excited to see the big sleeve back and its dramatic shape makes it a perfect candidate for a party outfit.

I have three fantastic models to choose from that tick all the boxes. First up is the Folded Sleeve Top from Trend Patterns, with its super interesting tucked in sleeve. If you want to supervise the sleeve, then the Fiber Mood Lulu with button is for you. The Liza blouse from Vivkisews is perfect if you like a blouse with lots of detail, check out the line drawing to see all the seam lines.

Then there was the suit, which, for pants lovers, made me very happy. They were everywhere, so if you're half-considering making one, now's the time. Lots of pretty fabrics used for these, from sequins to velvet to costumes.

I have two options for each of them. One is for the creator who is short on time and the other is for someone who wants to take on a big project. For the brand involved, the Jasika blazer from Closet Core is perfect to wear with the high-waisted pants from The Assembly Line. For those with a little less time on their hands, the blazer from Avid Seamstress alongside the wide-leg pants from The Maker's Atelier.

Next to the suit, the vest was another very present piece in the stores' party outfits. Again, this is another item that can fit in with items you already have.

I have two great patterns, the Viviene from Fiber Mood is slightly more fitted with a bust dart and princess seams. If you're looking for something closer to a traditional men's vest, then the Miller from Merchant and Mills.

This simple dress shape has been featured in fall trends and it's here to stay. As you can see above, a varied range of fabrications, but most were stretch fabric. So I have selected three knitting patterns below.

First up was the Roya dress from Fibremood, the most relaxed fit of the three options I chose. Next up was the Iliana dress from Vikisews because the neckline was so pretty. For the happy medium, the Nikko dress from True Bias has plenty of options, including a polo neck.

The slip dress is next up, I've seen lots of these lovely simple shapes, from v-neck to cowl neck, so take your pick!

I have three fantastic options for you. The Sicily slip dress from Maisin is perfect for cowl neck lovers. If you want a quick make, the Leona dress from Tammy Handmade is ideal as it is a jersey pattern. For something a little less form-fitting, Fiber Mood's summer dress is your answer.

I titled it the Basic Dress because I think it's a shape that will never go out of style and one that you will wear again and again.

For this I chose the Closet Core Nicks dress, probably the most casual of the three and perfect if you want to get good at collecting. Next is the Ella dress from Silversaga Patterns with the most beautiful neckline. Finally the Style Arc Naomi dress with its interesting seam around the waist, check it out.
