Free sewing pattern and embroidery design for the “Finja” shirt (January 2024 only)

Greet the New Year with a big hello! If your New Year's resolution is to sew more with your serger and covert machine, then you might want to practice a little with this month's free pattern, the “Finja” shirt. You can download the pattern and embroidery design until January 31, 2024 in the section “Download the free sewing pattern for the “Finja” shirt (January only)”. As always, you will have to act quickly because each pattern is only available for free download for the month indicated.

Sew the “Finja” shirt

Embroider first! Knitted fabrics can be difficult to hoop. One method is to use a self-adhesive, water-soluble stabilizer called “Solufix”. Thread a layer of Solufix into the embroidery hoop, remove the backing paper and stick the fabric on top, being careful not to stretch the fabric in any direction. Glue another layer of Solufix and fix the layers with the basting function. You can achieve excellent embroidery results on knitted fabrics with this Solufix “sandwich” method. We used blue metallic thread and Madeira Spectra holographic thread to make our embroidery even more shiny. Loosen the thread tension, reduce the embroidery speed and/or use a metathread needle to prevent your specialty thread from breaking.

The shirt itself is sewn very quickly! Hem the outer edges of the ruffle with a narrow 2-thread flatlock stitch. This stitch is much less bulky than an overlock stitch, which means your shuttlecock will be much softer. Sew all the pieces together with a 4-thread overlock stitch, hem the shirt and sleeves with a coverstitch and that's it! The “Finja” shirt is a superb pattern for getting back to work on the overlocker and coverstitch machine.
