A free quilt pattern for you! Mini Log Cabin quilts can be a lot of fun and can create multiple designs in one turn of the block. Here are 2 mini quilts that I made using Pattern Flex, as a basis for piecing together the foundations.
Look at those precise stitching!
The flexibility of the pattern makes laying the foundation much more fun.
It's easy to see through, so tissue alignment is much easier. Pattern Flex does not need to be removed, so no more hours of tearing and removing paper from your pads.
I donated this quilt along with the bedroom set, which included my hand painted bed, to a children's auction fund that raised money for children's charities this summer .
Then I saw this collection of fabrics that screamed rainbow quilt. The collection is called Love, Lily by April Rosenthal for Moda fabrics. Here is my Rainbow Connection Log Cabin Quilt, which is included in the free quilt pattern.
I did not remove any PatternFlex and washed the quilts normally without any problems. The Pattern Flex didn't make it too stiff – in fact, I couldn't see a difference in the quilt at all. I am super happy with the results.
I managed to remove the flex pattern from a test block. It tears easily and I use it to stabilize small shoulder seams or to sew knits, so save those scraps!
Another benefit of using Pattern Flex for foundation assembly is that when you make a mistake and need to remove seams, Pattern Flex does NOT fall apart like paper foundation assembly does.
You can purchase Pattern Flex from C&T publication here. It is also available on Amazon and in quilt stores.
If you have never made log cabin blocks or have never tried assembling log cabin blocks before, I highly recommend it. The finished logs on this block are 1/2″ wide, and piecing together the foundations made it so easy to be precise and get great results.
My pattern contains a complete photo tutorial of building the block. You can find the pattern and pattern here for free download.
