Learn how to make a gift card holder with a free sewing pattern. These look like Christmas tags and can hold a gift card or small card and envelope!
It's hard to admit, but sometimes the best gift is a gift card. Especially for the people in your life who have everything or don't know what they want.
Make the gift card more exciting by creating a gift card holder with this free sewing pattern. You can use any cotton fabric for quilting, and I used sequin fabric to make it more eye-catching. If you don't want to add a gift card, you can add a really cute note in a mini envelope for a heartwarming gift.
Isn't glitter fabric fun? I just think it's so pretty. It would be so fun to hang it next to a stocking or stick it on a gift. It also makes a great ornament!
What fabric should I use for a gift card holder?
I used glitter fabric for these gift card holders, and it worked great. I recommend using quilting cotton for these.
Quilting cotton is easy to find, easy to sew, and comes in many great prints and colors. It also won't be too thick when you sew multiple layers together to make this gift card holder work.
What is a PDF sewing pattern?
A PDF pattern is a sewing pattern designed on a computer and organized so that it can be printed on several sheets of letter or A4 size paper.
I love using PDF sewing patterns because if the pattern gets damaged or my kids or I have changed sizes, I can always print it again. It will never be destroyed since I have a digital version!
How to use a PDF sewing pattern?
Open the PDF on a computer and click Print. When printing, make sure the scaling is set to 100% or no scaling so that the design prints at the correct size.
Once the design is printed, it can be glued together to achieve its actual size. Then the pattern can be cut out for each size piece of the pattern or individual sizes can be traced so that the pattern can be used again and again. Learn how to use PDF sewing patterns.

Pin the pattern to the fabric and cut out the pieces.
You will cut out two label pieces and one rectangle piece. Make sure to cut the notches.
Cut out the stabilizer for the three pattern pieces and apply the stabilizer to the wrong side of the fabric.
Fold the rectangle in half, matching the notches. Press the fold with your finger.
Pin the pocket to one of the tag pieces, matching the notches.
Brush around three sides of pocket 1/8 inch from edge.
Pin the label pieces right sides together, matching the corners and notches.
Sew around the sides with a 1/4 inch seam allowance. Backstitch when starting and stopping, and leave a 2-inch hole for turning.
Cut the notches and trim all the corners.
Turn the label right side out. Pierce all the corners with a bit driver.
Pinch the hole closed and pin it in place.
Stitch around the edges and sew the hole closed. Sew a 1/4-inch diameter circle to the top of the tag.
Cut a circle out of the fabric inside the sewn circle.
Cut a piece of ribbon or cord. Pass it through the hole and tie it.
Add your gift cards or mini envelopes in the pouch to finish the gift!
