Today, Mire joins us to share what she made from the Fall 2023 pattern line.
I decided to sew view A of the Amarena dress. But instead of welt pockets, I used the side pockets from model B. My measurements put me in size 6, so I took that size without any modifications. I used draped Tencel from my stash, which was a good choice for the dress. The dress was quick and easy to sew. The necklace took a while, but Liesl wrote good instructions. Editor’s note: we often hear this comment. Liesl writes clear, easy to follow instructions.
I really like the result! This is a great all year round dress. I love making clothes that are great layering pieces that I can wear in any season. In the fall I wear a T-shirt under the dress and in the winter I add a cardigan to keep warm. The dress suits me well. But when I wear a T-shirt under the dress, it feels just a little too tight in the back. So I'm going to add a little room in my next one to also wear it as a layer.
I had planned to make myself an Antwerp sweater in gray wool flannel, but my teenage daughter fell in love with the Antwerp sweater and asked if I could sew one for her. She didn't like my choice of fabric and chose a blue pleated ponte from my stash instead. I used jersey to line the hood. The sweater has a nice shape.
In the end, I was surprised by the result. I would never have chosen Ponte for this sweater, but it is superb! I have to admit that my daughter's fabric choice was good.
