Get inspired to make one of these quick and easy DIY T-shirt costumes for Halloween! They work great for kids or adults and boys or girls!
Halloween is fast approaching and you may need a quick and easy last minute costume idea! The best way to make a simple costume is to base it on a t-shirt.
T-shirt suits are perfect for warmer atmospheres like a party, work, or hot areas. You can create so many characters and costumes starting with a t-shirt!
Some of these projects require something to be put on the t-shirt like heat transfer vinyl, felt, or a cape. Some projects are sewn in fabric to transform the t-shirt into something more. Some of these projects consist of a t-shirt with additional accessories to create the right look.

Why make DIY costumes?
I love making DIY costumes for my kids for many different reasons. I love being able to create something unique that they want and will love. We live in a cold area, so I always have to pack warm suits so they don't need to wear a jacket or coat on top.
I almost always save money by reusing fabrics and clothes from my stash and our house, and I've found that reusing clothes saves me time.
Homemade costumes use stronger, more durable fabric that will last through months and years of dressing up and play. I love that the costumes last longer than a night of partying.
Where to find sturdy clothes?
I have several different places I look for sturdy clothing for kids. It all depends on what I'm looking for and what I need.
- When I need a solid matching set (like a t-shirt and leggings or a sweatshirt and sweatpants), I check Primary.com first. There are so many basic options in all the styles I love.
- When I need a t-shirt or sweatshirt in a very specific color, I look first Jiffy Shirts. There are so many colors in different mixes of t-shirts.
- When I need something quickly and I'm not picky about color, I look Walmart*either for my pickup or in-person purchases.
