Learn how to sew a scarf in different ways. Choose your favorite method for a warm and fun beginner sewing project.
One of the most fun accessories to make and sew is a scarf. I love lightweight clothing in the summer so I can still add layers and interest to an outfit without feeling hot. I like cozy ones in the winter so I can try to stay warm in cold weather.
There are many options for sewing scarves. I love that you can use woven or knit fabric, lots of sewing or minimal sewing, extra details or a bold print, etc.
Some of these scarves are intended for adults and others are intended for children. Each tutorial gives you measurements or a free sewing pattern to create your own scarf.
Some of these scarves are small and lightweight and perfect for hot summer days. Some of these scarves are large and warm and perfect for cold winter days. There are so many fun options for sewing a scarf!
Should I clean fabric before sewing a scarf?
Yes, you should wash the fabric before working with it. Wash the fabric the same way you would treat the finished scarf to remove any shrinkage and see how it will look after washing.
Some scarves are never washed if worn with care, but some scarves (like my scarf that I use for running) are washed regularly and should be able to be handled.
